© 2007 Designs By Dreamer | I love paper. And paper arts. All kinds of paper arts - rubber stamping, scrapbooking, art journals, bookmaking, collage, assemblage, quilling, and...iris folding. Iris folding. That's what started all this!
Iris folding started in Holland years ago because the insides of their return envelopes were printed in beautiful colors and tiny patterns. Papers are folded and applied according to a pattern that results in a spiral that resembles a camera lens or the iris of an eye. Hence the name.
Playing around with iris folding one day, led me to develop paper folding patterns that result in the look of a traditional quilt block. Many traditional quilts such as:
have been adapted to small patterns that provide an array of possibilities. Those and many others, are what you'll find in our pattern selections.
I started with patterns resulting in 4" squares. Soon after that, I added 2 1/2" mini patterns which can also be used to create pins. Then came 6" squares for those who wanted to make framed art, or those who wished to frame a larger photo on their scrapbooking layout. Ovals were a natural progression. Medium ovals are 5 x 7 over-all. Large ovals are 8 x 10. Our new Rectangles package has two 5 x 7 patterns and two 8 x 10's. Patterns for various shapes were also designed. There is a Christmas tree, ornament, circle, star, leaf, small oval, and small rectangle available.
Cardmakers may use their finished pieces as card fronts, part of a collage or in bookmaking. Scrapbookers use their finished quilt blocks as embellishments on their pages or to frame photos or journaling blocks.
Add our clear acrylic covers to your quilt and you may choose to create a Christmas ornament (try a photo on one side and a quilt on the other). Wall hangings are easily made by joining two covered quilts plus a photo. Children love seeing their photo in a "permanent" decorating accent, and they make wonderful gifts for Grandma's, graduates, new moms or brides as well. Check out our photo gallery for more samples and suggestions.
Once I created the patterns, people started requesting precut "frames," or mats. Those are available to fit all of our patterns - 4" squares, 6" squares, mini's, ovals, and our new rectangles, and all of our shapes. They are usually cut from 80 lb. cover card stock.
All patterns are printed on glossy card stock and intended to be permanent. You need not cut the pattern for any reason. Simply tape your pattern on your work surface, place your frame over that, and begin following the numbers. You choose the number of designs and colors you may wish to use.
The standard selections contain 4 patterns, instructions, and a template for you to prepare the necessary opening needed to create your quilt. "Shapes" come with one pattern, four frames, and a template for you to cut additional frames if you like.
Brand new are our Universal patterns. All of our other patterns are numbered so you can simply place your papers, or fabrics, or ribbons in sequence and your quilt is finished. Universal patterns have no numbers. The idea is that you can take any punched, die-cut, or manually cut shape, place it on the pattern where you wish, and begin folding your papers. Six six-inch square patterns are included in the Universal package. Samples will be available in the photo gallery soon.
Also brand new are our clear stamps. A friend of mine asked if I couldn't make tiny little stamps that could be used for the center of a quilt. So, now I'm offering three sets of "inchers" which are tiny words and phrases suitable for those centers, as well as ATC's, inchies, and other small work. There is a sheet of phrases available called "Quilts" which includes many sayings that can be for card making. There are unique sheets done in my handwriting - a request from the same friend mentioned above (Thanks, Nancy!).
We will be adding to this site as time and material allow. Meanwhile, thanks for coming, and enjoy your visit!
